A New You: How to Find A Chiropractor

It’s a New Year and a New You! We’ll be doing a few articles to get you thinking and searching, to support you on the journey that is 2016.

It’s not always easy to pick a professional in any field with whom you feel comfortable and confident. While your hair may grow back after a misunderstanding with a new stylist, your health care provider is a more serious choice.

This includes searching for competent chiropractic care. As in many fields, diversity is common within chiropractic.  Many practitioners practice similar techniques, focused on pain relief and joint manipulation (movement). However, there are a select few chiropractors that attend advanced training to specialize in specific, scientific techniques that are designed to correct the cause of the pain, and express life fully.  How you choose to use chiropractic is dependent of your desires.  Unfortunately, many chose to use chiropractic, not as a healing art, but as a therapeutic remedy for pain.  This approach yields limited results and ofter allow the problem to reoccur and the individual to have multiple flare ups.

Here are a few points to consider and questions to ask as you choose a chiropractor.

  • Friends and Family: A place to begin your search is with your friends’ and family’s referrals. Word-of-mouth is a powerful tool that can build or destroy a reputation. Find out who is trusted by the people you trust. What kind of results have they experienced? How do they feel about the wait time and welcome by the office staff?
  • Call Ahead: Call ahead and find out if a chiropractor is a preferred provider with your insurance. This may not be a deal-breaker if you find a doctor with whom you are comfortable; ask what direct payment options are available. Ask about the initial analysis and the time required to start up.  Ask if the intake forms are available online to expedite the time at you first visit.
  • Go Online: Visit the chiropractor’s website or call the office, and see if their mission statement lines up with your goals for achieving health. Review Social Media content (Facebook Page, Instagram and Twitter), review their community board and association memberships and see if there are common interests.
  • Get Your Family Involved: Find out what is required to qualify for wellness care.  Ask question pertaining to not just your health needs, but also for your families needs.  See if there are family plans available and how soon children need to be checked for nerve interference.
