Chiropractic and the Wind

Do you believe in the wind?

Especially if you live here in Kansas, you definitely believe that the wind exists! You have seen the effects of the wind. It blows refreshing rain clouds over the plains from the Rocky Mountains. It whips into horrific tornadoes and blows out fences and windows in micro bursts. And on any given day, there’s enough of a breeze to fuss your hair and make you wish you had a hair tie on your wrist–Kansas means People of the South Wind, after all. These affects are definitely more visible than their source.

We can agree that, though unseen, the wind has huge amounts of power. Have you seen giant wind turbines, generating vast amounts of energy? But none of us have seen the wind. (Cue singing “Can you paint with all the colors of the wind…”)

The wind is not the only area where the results or symptoms are more visible than the source.  Think about how our bodies show a wide variety of aches to ruffle our hairdos, to tornado-sized pain, illnesses and diseases.

But nobody assumes that a tornado forms without wind, no one thinks wind turbines turn by magic. We know there’s a power, an invisible source to these effects.

It’s the same in our bodies. The symptoms are visible and painful. We can list them all out on a patient history, checking off the boxes. But the source is more tricky. Like a child asking his parent, “Why are you tired?” Where do we even begin to answer what is the source of our visible fatigue?

I heard a folktale as a child, where Jack was sent to “find the hole where the North Wind came in and…shut it up.” Now while impossible, it is definitely the right mindset when it comes to health–find the source that is causing these symptoms and fix it.

Chiropractors like Drs. Ryan and Denise Dopps are all about getting to the source to promote true health and healing. With various diagnostic tools, such as x-ray and their highly skilled hands, they find where there is a subluxation, a slight misalignment of the vertebrae, along the spinal chord. This subluxation prevents the flow of life-giving information from the brain to the nervous system and out to the body. After a chiropractic adjustment to move the vertebrae back into place, the body can better communicate to innately heal itself. It is amazing to discover how our organs, muscles and tissues are connected back to the brain via the nervous system and spine. With a clear communication, the body better follows the brain’s guidance for good health.

But that’s not the only source of symptoms the Dopps talk about. On Instagram, @ddopps Dr. Denise promotes health through nutrition and exercise. Her upcoming podcast at www.adjustyourvocabulary.com, encourages and stimulates mental health, using vocabulary to “elevate your voice.”

You can also find Dr. Ryan on Instagram @drdopps, where he lives out a chiropractic lifestyle and @letschalkaboutchiropractic posts fun, humorous snippets of information with colorful illustrations.

But if you really want to “find the hole where the North Wind blows in and…shut it up,” give Drs. Ryan and Denise a call at their Wichita office, Dopps Chiropractic NE, to set up an appointment (316) 636-5550. And stop being blown around by your symptoms; treat the source!

And now I’ll give you Pocahontas. Because I know that’s been in your head this whole time.
